Australian drone racing champion Thomas Bitmatta joins Airspeeder Team Australia, Mason West represents DeLorean Airspeeder Team, and New Zealand champion Seth Moore flies for Airspeeder New Zealand. Further pilot announcements will follow.

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA | 27 OCTOBER 2026

Airspeeder has named the first three pilots for its inaugural International Series, introducing accomplished FPV racers from Australia, the United States and New Zealand to a grid featuring five national teams.

Thomas Bitmatta will represent Airspeeder Team Australia, Mason West will race for DeLorean Airspeeder Team, representing the United States, and Seth Moore will fly for Airspeeder New Zealand. The remaining pilots will be announced as preparations continue for the series’ opening private race in Adelaide in November 2026.

The three bring experience across international drone racing, simulation, aerial cinematography and technical operations. Their next challenge is to apply those skills to Airspeeder’s electric racing aircraft, developing their understanding of the platform through training and flight preparation.

National teams give people a reason to follow the sport. Pilots give them someone to get behind. Thomas, Mason and Seth are three of the best FPV racers on the planet, and they’ve just moved onto a machine 400 times bigger and more powerful than anything they’ve ever flown. Drone racing gave them the fast reflexes and the heightened instinct for what an aircraft wants to do in the air, but nothing quite prepares you for this. An Airspeeder is a new class of vehicle, and racing one prop-to-prop is a new discipline that nobody has mastered yet. They’re the first three names on a five-team grid, and the ones who follow them will be chasing.

Thomas Bitmatta | Airspeeder Team Australia

Melbourne based Bitmatta is a five-time Australian Drone Nationals Champion, three-time Australian Open Drone Racing Champion and two-time winner of the MultiGP International Open World Cup. His record also includes five New Zealand Open titles and individual and team success in the Japan Drone League.

His route into racing began with aviation at home. He watched his father fly RC aircraft, started using flight simulators at around five, and began flying fixed-wing aircraft at 12. As FPV equipment and racing quadcopters became more accessible, he moved into competitive flying around Melbourne. By his final year of high school, he had already won two Australian national titles and his first world title.

Bitmatta now works as a drone cinematographer, engineer and mechanic alongside his racing career. Having followed Airspeeder since its early days and previously visited its Adelaide facility, he joins Airspeeder Team Australia with a new aircraft to master and a home race toward which to build.

Mason West | DeLorean Airspeeder Team

West discovered drone racing while studying network infrastructure. After seeing Drone Racing League footage online, he began practising in a simulator and progressed to racing alongside professional pilots in streamed competitions. He then built his first racing drone and travelled to Ohio for his first race in person.

West’s connection to Airspeeder began in virtual competition. He won an Airspeeder community simulator tournament hosted through Celeros, bringing flying car racing to players online. He used the prize money to improve his equipment and travel to more drone racing events, later earning a place on the Drone Champions League wildcard team and competing in Abu Dhabi.

His racing experience also led to work as a drone technician on major live broadcast productions across sport and entertainment. That combination of competitive flying and technical work now comes to the DeLorean Airspeeder Team as West prepares to represent the team on the international grid.

Seth Moore | Airspeeder New Zealand

Moore is an FPV pilot, camera operator and editor from Christchurch. He began flying in 2017 after watching FPV videos online and has since built a career filming action sports and live events, including rally cars, motorbikes, drifting and jet boats.

He has raced throughout that time, earning podium finishes at the New Zealand Open before taking first place in New Zealand in 2026. He has also finished fifth overall at the Australian Drone Nationals and serves as president of Redzone Drone Racing in Christchurch.

Moore has already begun learning the Airspeeder platform in the simulator. Although he has flown large drones carrying cinema cameras, he says the racing aircraft present a different challenge from the smaller FPV drones he knows best.

Just having the opportunity to fly one of these beasts is incredible, but being able to represent New Zealand while doing it is even better.

Preparing the pilots for competition

Global Drone Solutions is Airspeeder’s Training Provider Partner, supporting pilot training as the teams prepare for the inaugural Airspeeder International Series.

The partnership will help pilots build the knowledge and operational discipline required to progress from smaller racing drones to Airspeeder’s electric racing aircraft, alongside simulator training and preparation with Airspeeder’s flight crew.

These pilots already know how to race. The next step is learning how to get the best out of a much larger aircraft. That means understanding its response, anticipating its movement and working closely with the crew. As our Training Provider Partner, Global Drone Solutions will support their preparation for that step. The speed is exciting, but precision and sound judgement are what make a strong Airspeeder pilot.
Zeph Walsh Head of Pilot Training at Airspeeder

With pilots now named for three of the five competing national teams, Airspeeder will reveal the remaining pilots as preparations build toward the opening private race in Adelaide coming November.
